My career began in 1987 as a trailer mechanic with Overnite Transportation Company.

That experience established a foundation I have never forgotten. I learned how the business works from the people who actually do the work.

Over the years, my responsibilities grew from maintaining equipment to managing maintenance operations, leading departments, improving financial performance, and ultimately serving in executive leadership as CEO.

My experience includes leadership positions and assignments with:

• Overnite Transportation
• J.B. Hunt Transport
• Roadrunner Transportation Systems
• Jones Logistics
• Southwestern Motor Transport

I've worked with publicly traded corporations, privately owned carriers, and family-owned transportation businesses.

I've also held full executive responsibility for a business with a $248 million P&L.

That progression has given me an understanding of how the individual parts of a transportation company affect the performance of the entire organization.

Over the course of my career and advisory engagements, I've helped companies:

• Reduce maintenance costs by more than 20%.
• Improve monthly cash flow by more than $100,000.
• Reduce annual liability insurance costs by approximately $500,000.
• Negotiate fuel purchasing improvements worth approximately $300,000 annually.
• Improve safety, reliability, and equipment availability.
• Strengthen financial reporting and operating controls.
• Improve organizational structure and management accountability.
• Implement technology and processes that reduce expenses and improve productivity.
• Improve fleet utilization, staffing, and business performance.

These improvements weren't achieved through recommendations alone.

They required working with people, understanding the numbers, challenging existing practices, making difficult decisions, and following through.

One engagement illustrates how I've approached business problems throughout my career.

In March 2021, I joined a growing transportation and logistics company as a maintenance consultant.

Within three months, my responsibilities expanded to include safety.

A year later, I assumed responsibility for operations.

In April 2023, the company's Board of Directors asked me to become Chief Operating Officer.

During that period, the fleet grew from approximately 200 to 500 trucks while remaining profitable.

I wasn't originally brought in to run the company.

I was brought in to solve a problem.

As additional problems were addressed, my responsibilities expanded.

That experience reflects the philosophy behind KME Services today.

The problem may bring us into the business. The results determine the value we deliver.

Throughout my career, I've contributed industry knowledge and practical operating experience through publications and professional organizations.

My perspectives have appeared in transportation publications including:

• Fleet Maintenance Magazine
• Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine

I've also served as Study Group Chair for the S.3 and S.5 study groups within the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC), and have led and participated in technical presentations at industry events.

These experiences have allowed me to learn from, collaborate with, and contribute to the broader transportation industry. 

Good leadership isn't about titles, elaborate presentations, or creating unnecessary layers of management.

It's about understanding the business, respecting the people doing the work, making decisions, establishing accountability, and delivering results.

I believe in direct communication.

I believe problems need owners.

I believe decisions should be grounded in facts. And I believe improvements should be measurable.

Most importantly, I believe a leader's responsibility is to help people and organizations perform better.
